I'm Elaine, an artist exploring creativity through zines, illustration, and handmade objects that connect people to each other and to small observations in nature.

 

The Sea of E is my ongoing exploration of creativity. For a long time, I lived in a familiar mold of engineer by day and nonfiction reader by night. My creativity was put on the backburner for too long.  Eventually, curiosity and the need for balance won. I began drawing, writing, making zines, and documenting what it feels like to learn something new without needing to be good at it right away. I consider myself a "recovering perfectionist!"  This site is a record of that exploration: the art, the experiments, the completed projects, and the quest for continuing to foster my creativity.

What does the "Sea of E" mean?

The name is a play on the letter E for "Elaine" and "exploration," and rhymes with "creativity." I wanted to encourage this sense of exploration and adventure in trying new things, much like exploring a new environment like the sea. It also reminds me of the names of locations on Earth’s Moon, like Sea of Tranquility, Sea of Serenity, Sea of Knowledge, Sea of Cleverness, etc. Yes, the nerdy engineer side still makes an appearance!
